Jeonju–North Jeolla Chapter Kicks Off Fall with a Fun(d)raiser
Jeonju–North Jeolla Chapter started the fall semester with energy and creativity at our September opener at Jeonbuk University. We introduced a new location in the College of Education building, complete with fresh name tags featuring QR codes for quick access to chapter information.
To keep our chapter strong, we launched our first-ever silent auction, “Put the Fun in Fundraiser,” featuring donated books, games, and teaching materials. Thanks to the generosity of members and bidders, we raised enough to cover expenses for the next six months — and had a lot of fun along the way....

In May, we took a walk around Jeonbuk National University to familiarize ourselves with the campus and to see what all it has to offer.
In June, we enjoyed workshops by Gabriele Villafradez (how to bring language to life through cooking and art) and Yuying Kang (Praat software for classroom use and pronunciation research).
In July and August, our chapter...

Welcome to the Chat GPT Jungle - JNJ meeting, April 5
Jeonju North Jeolla’s meeting on April 5th brought us a full house and a request to watch our presenters Aaron Snowberger and Eve Kim, remotely, so Facebook live was used to broadcast to the world.
Aaron’s presentation: Smarter, Faster, Better: ChatGPT For Fun and Profit was probably the best I have ever seen on this topic. When most people present on technology, they use a lot of terms and buzz words that make me want to crawl under my desk. Aaron explained that AI is a statistical model that predicts the next word. Now that feels reasonable to me. It’s revolutionary because it...

March JNJ Workshop Recap: Teaching English through Music and Culture
March 8th was our first workshop of the year. Natalie Thibault kicked things off with suggestions on how to use pop music beyond filling in the gaps. She brought some music to help us, with the Beatles’ “Penny Lane” and Taylor Swift’s video “You Belong with Me”. Some of the suggestions were vocabulary building, listening comprehension, pronunciation, multiple learning styles, cultural understanding, critical thinking and more, plus my favorite, singing along.
After the break, we had three presenters talk about International Women’s Day in their countries. One common theme is that...
