Dr. David Shaffer, Korea TESOL Past President (2017-2019)
Welcome to the Korea TESOL website!
On behalf of Korea TESOL, I welcome you to our website. Korea TESOL (aka KOTESOL) is an English teachers association dedicated to improving English language teaching and learning not only for our members but for all teachers in Korea, and beyond.
We are a group of “Teachers Helping Teachers.”
The Korea TESOL mission statement is
To promote scholarship, disseminate information, and facilitate cross-cultural understanding among persons concerned with the teaching and learning of English in Korea.
We are a multi-cultural, multi-national, equity-minded association. You will find some specifics on who we are HERE.
In this rapidly globalizing world, the importance of English as a lingua franca is ever increasing. Accordingly, the demands on the English teacher become more challenging. Korea TESOL assists with professional development through its publications and its conferences, chapter meetings, workshops, and similar events.
Korea TESOL is quite active in the area of publications. We publish the semi-annual and academic Korea TESOL Journal; the English language teaching quarterly magazine, The English Connection; and a volume of selected papers based on presentations at our international conference, KOTESOL Proceedings. Back issues of these can be accessed in the Publications section HERE.
For interactive professional development, Korea TESOL organizes numerous events throughout the year. Largest in scale is our annual international conference, held in October (the largest ELT conference in Korea). In the spring of the year, is our national conference, and several of our regional chapters put on conferences throughout the year. Our regional chapters are active every month of the year, offering presentations and workshops to their local members – more than 50 events annually – and our SIGs (special interest groups) have their own events, too. Find a schedule of them HERE. Find more on our conferences HERE.
I encourage you to take some time and look around our website; I am sure you will find information and events of interest to you. Most of the website is accessible to all. Certain activities are limited to those who register in the website, which is free. And of course, some pages and publications are reserved for dues-paying members. We hope you will consider becoming part of our community by becoming a Korea TESOL member. Find out more about membership HERE.
You are always welcome at Korea TESOL.
