In this workshop participants will explore the ideas behind vocabulary games and examine what works and what doesn't work in the Korean classroom and why. Examples of both popular well-known games and an Excel-based game developed to teach and practice vocabulary will be presented.

Participants will have the opportunity to play some of the games and to discuss their purposes - why play them? Why use them in the classroom? This is a crucial part of preparing to use games in the classroom, unless you are clear as to the purpose the game will serve and have some way of testing whether the objective was met, it simply is a way of passing the time.

Finally the workshop will examine how to use and present games, and what the teacher needs to be aware of during the time that students interact with the game.

All participants will be provided with a complete handout detailing the Excel vocabulary game and a handout listing quick and easy games to play as fillers, as well as instructions to develop more complex games using the curriculum handbook.
