The Research Committee is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2026 KOTESOL Research Grant (₩500,000). This year’s award goes to Sarah Warfield for the project “AI Use and Instructor Readiness in STEM EMI Contexts in South Korea.”
Focusing on the growing role of artificial intelligence in higher education, this study explores how EMI instructors teaching STEM subjects understand, use, and evaluate AI in their teaching. It also investigates how these instructors conceptualize their readiness to teach disciplinary content through English.
The committee believes this project addresses a timely and important issue at the intersection of EMI and educational technology.
The Research Committee also invites KOTESOL members to submit proposals for the 2027 Research Grant cycle. Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis, and we encourage projects that address timely issues in English language teaching and learning, particularly those with clear relevance to the Korean context. Members interested in applying are encouraged to begin developing their proposals early and to consult the guidelines available on the KOTESOL website: https://koreatesol.org/research-grant. Good luck!
