In a show of solidarity and support for educators facing hardships and precarity due to COVID-19, KOTESOL is moving the 2020 National Conference online and making it free for everyone!
Busan-Gyeongnam KOTESOL will be hosting KOTESOL's first-ever online conference. It will be a full day of synchronous sessions YouTube Live and Zoom sessions in addition to access to more than 20 pre-recorded webinars that will be archived in the KOTESOL video library and YouTube channel. The chapter is excited about this year's theme:
Teachers and their students can change and transform in positive ways through our shared experiences. The more creative ways teachers find to communicate with students, the more engaged those students can be in the classroom and in the world outside of the classroom. The more we all engage with the world around us, the better citizens we become of our global community. We also have a shared responsibility to our professional community to help strengthen it with support and respect for all its diverse members. Let's be the change we wish to see in the world... in 2020 and beyond.

CONFERENCE NOTICE:
Due to the pandemic of the Novel Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Korea, the 2020 KOTESOL National Conference will not be held as a place-based meeting at Kyungman University in Masan. Instead, it will transition to an online conference with the goal of providing an authentic and meaningful experience for all participants.
This is not a decision that has been made lately. As an organization, KOTESOL values face-to-face events where members and other ELT professionals can come together to share in professional development, network, and celebrate the scholarship and accomplishments of our peers. Sadly, the ongoing coronavirus pandemic means that, for the foreseeable future, it would be insupportable to convene any sort of in-person meeting. The health and well-being of all conference participants is our utmost concern, and we will not hold an event where that might be put in jeopardy.
It is the conference committee's aim that by going forward as an online-only event, we can maintain the value of a National Conference by continuing KOTESOL's ethos of "teachers helping teachers" through the use of a digital platform. Even in the face of the current pandemic, the National Conference can continue to be a venue that supports the gathering of teachers from a diverse array of teaching contexts, geographic locations, and national backgrounds to share current ELT-related research and best practices.
As we go forward in organizing this event please know that we are still working out some of the logistics, and all pertinent developments will be updated on the National Conference webpage as they are confirmed. It is the conference committee's aim to organize a successful event that serves the needs of our conference participants.
