10+ Tips to Increase your Professional Posture

Aaron Snowberger

ABSTRACT
Over the years, I've collected numerous tips for better teaching, better presentations, making course materials, and presenting your best professional face to the world - both in person and online. This talk will include a collection of at least 10 tips including Google Drive, Classroom, & Search tips, creating listening tests, increasing your professional productivity, setting and achieving goals, using LinkedIn and online resumes, and so on. I may structure it as a bit of a "Choose Your Own Adventure" presentation and allow the audience to choose the tips most relevant to their interests. And as usual, I'll try to allow for plenty of question time at the end.

Let’s Speak Digitally: A Pathway into Future

Bilal Qureshi

ABSTRACT
Designing an effective interface for presentations classes to monitor output, notice weaknesses, and provide feedback has always been a challenge for English teachers. The ephemeral nature of speech lacks the ability to offer review and reflect on L2 spoken output to both students and instructors. Video recording of speeches proved to be a great tool that offers direct benefits to learners including: it provides a tangible record of what was said, it is a great opportunity for peers to watch the video again for detailed online feedback, students reflect on how it may be improved. This also justifies the existing research supporting the effectiveness and wide applicability of video-recorded speeches in content-based instruction (Gimeno-Sanz, 2015).

This pilot study was designed to reveal student’s perceptions and the effect of video-recorded in-class speeches, reflection tasks, and online feedback. Data was collected from learners’
speech recordings and their feedback comments. The findings were used to analyze if/how the video-recorded speeches help learners enhance their speaking skills. The second part of
this presentation will demonstrate practical techniques and activities to set up a video-recording infrastructure for speech classes. The goal of this presentation is to engage attendees into a collaborative learning, so they can subsequently implement this information for their own respective classrooms.
