Abstract:
Topic: “The English Musical Project in Goyang Middle School Based on Drama-based Instruction”
From March of 2015 to present, the students of Goyang Middle School have experienced communicative English classes founded on Drama-based Instruction. The project is composed of a semester-long collaborative activity, and each student in the project has plenty of opportunities to express their ideas and feelings in a group while they take steps to make an English musical together. It is a process-centered project, so each step is a meaningful stand-alone class to enhance students’ communicative abilities. All the steps are arranged to make a decent English musical that all the students in class can participate in. The survey after a performance showed that the students were motivated in improving the four skills and had more confidence and self-efficacy. In addition, the interview after the project revealed that their affective filter was lowered and that they could change their affective attitude toward learning English.
