Aulia Djunaedi (Youngsan University, Korea)
Abstract
In this workshop, I will first address the objectives of having literature as a minor subject at a university. Second, I will address strategies that can be applied to novels, including pre-reading activities, the reading itself, and post-reading. I will share how I apply these in my one-hour, multicultural class. Following that, I will demonstrate how these strategies can be used in a classroom, having all the participants pretend to be adult learners. This activity will take about 30 minutes. In the end, I will share how I grade students, with examples of assignments as well as a list of books I have used or plan to use. We will discuss the challenges we face in teaching literature and share solutions as well as books that we like. The last activity is likely to take about 15 minutes.
