The Effects of a Learner-Centred Digital Storytelling Project
Abstract
This study was designed to explore the efficiency of the learner-centered digital storytelling project by integrating technology into a college English program. To observe the effects of the learner collaborative digital storytelling approach in the foreign language classroom, we administrated a pre- and post- questionnaire to 127 university students. We observed the classes and interviewed the students to analyze their attitude towards this approach. The results showed that there was a significant difference in the score for the pre- and post TOEIC speaking test. It also indicated that the students' motivation and collaboration among learning attitudes were significantly increased statistically. Based on the results, we suggest the educational implications for those who wish to develop a learner-centered digital storytelling approach for university students.
Biographicals
Punahm Park is the program director at Duksung International Language Center at Duksung Women's University, Korea. Having done research on curriculum development and implementation in the EFL context, she now focuses on developing a digital storytelling language program for elementary and university students. Recently, she has had a strong interest in CBI-based digital storytelling curriculum for college English programs. She has an MA in Applied Linguistics from the University of Florida and a PhD from Chonnam National University.
Christopher Redmond teaches English at Duksung Women’s University in Seoul. He taught for two years at a high school in Daegu and has also worked as a presentation skills instructor at Yonsei University. He received his BA (English and History), MA (Film Studies) and CELTA from University College Cork, and is currently studying towards an MA in Applied Linguistics and TESOL with the University of Leicester. He has presented at several conferences around Korea. Chris's research interests lie mostly in Extensive Reading, sociolinguistics, and materials development.
