Abstracts:
Topic: “How to Integrate Creativity into English Education”
This presentation aims to explore how to integrate creativity into English education. Creativity is a complex ability that involves identifying problems, making inferences and new connections, generating new ideas and communicating results. Torrance (1988) delineated four constructs of creativity: originality (generation of a new idea), fluency (the number of new ideas), flexibility (the number of categories of new ideas), and elaboration (the degree of detail and precision of the idea). This presentation shares several ideas to increase student creativity through task-based learning. Some of the examples include: auction (descriptive writing), hypertext writing (collaborative narrative writing), virtual museum (speaking and writing), game-based learning, and location-based learning.
Topic: “A Practical Implementation of the Story “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” for Young Learners”
Michael Rosen’s story “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” has been delighting audiences both young and old since its publication. Containing both vivid settings and stimulating language, the story makes an ideal source for a performance piece for young learners. This presentation will cover how to use the story in class, including key activities for story comprehension, vocabulary development, sharing thoughts on the story, and maintaining interest. Additionally, motions which may be used when presenting the story as a class will also be demonstrated, and time will be provided for teachers to discuss how they might implement the story in their own classrooms.
