KOTESOL International Conference committee members are gearing up for the 24th annual International Conference, ‘Shaping the Future with 21st Century Skills’. At the conference, KOTESOL is debuting an interactive Media Station. The Media Station is an outlet designed to connect teachers, attendees, presenters and volunteers while participating in professional development through workshops and presentations.
This year attendees won’t have to wait for the member wine and cheese Saturday evening to meet and connect with fellow teachers and speakers. During the conference, KOTESOL will be using Facebook “Live” to share information in real time on its Facebook page Korea TESOL News. Seoul Chapter Vice President, Elizabeth May, returning International Conference participant stated, “I think it’s great that KOTESOL is working on directly reaching out to their members in such a contemporary way, it really shows how KOTESOL is evolving.”
With more than two hundred concurrent sessions to choose from over two days (Oct.15-16), KOTESOL has set the bar high. The diverse array of topics is appealing to the novice teacher, veteran educator, and researcher alike. Sifting through presenter biographies and abstracts can be time-consuming for the busy teacher, or challenging when there are so many great workshops to choose from this year.
From the Media Station KOTESOL’s Angela McCloskey will stream short interviews with presenters via Facebook “Live”. “I like the thought that ideas I share might help others with their development as English Educators. The Media Station is an excellent resource for first-time presenters like myself,” said Kara Waggoner, teacher educator from Sookmyung Women’s University.
The media station will provide a platform for presenters to directly connect with teachers before their presentation. Highlighting their workshop or teasing a panel discussion. McCloskey will ask two or three short opened ended questions ideally capturing a slice of the presenter’s personality giving conference attendees the option to learn more about the upcoming sessions.
KOTESOL’s Media Station will be located on the first floor near Gemma Hall. Look out for McCloskey and KOTESOL News staff throughout the weekend they will also be uploading photos and valuable information on the hour during this year’s International Conference. Tune in for KOTESOL’sfirst “Live” interview on Friday night October 14th to win a prize.
