Jeonju North Jeolla KOTESOL concluded its spring workshop season on June 13 with two presentations that offered participants practical ideas and fresh perspectives for the EFL classroom.
We were pleased to welcome Kristina Kauss, President of the Gyeonggi Chapter, who presented Supportive Language Education Utilizing Technology and Differentiation Strategies. Drawing on her experience, she explored inclusive teaching practices, differentiation, and the use of technology to support diverse learners.
Our own lifetime member, Liliana Tintin, followed with Teaching Listening: From Principles to Practice. Her presentation examined listening as an active, interpretive process and introduced participants to top-down and bottom-up strategies that can be adapted for learners across a range of proficiency levels.
Although our workshop schedule is on its summer break, the chapter has been anything but quiet. Over the past several weeks, the executive team has been meeting regularly and working behind the scenes to prepare for the JNJ Regional Conference: Challenges and Opportunities for Provincial Education in Korea, which will be held at Jeonbuk National University on Saturday, September 5.
This year's conference will be our first full conference since the Covid pandemic, and preparations are already well underway. Officers are coordinating the program, communicating with presenters, organizing publicity, and handling the many details that go into hosting a successful event.
We are excited to welcome educators from around the country to Jeonju for an afternoon of professional development and the sharing of ideas related to teaching outside the capital region. And for those visiting Jeonju for the first time, the conference is also a chance to experience one of Korea's most beloved destinations—famous for its Hanok Village, food, and historic atmosphere.
As September approaches, we look forward to bringing teachers together once again for a meaningful day of learning and connection.
