Teachers Helping Teachers: Sharing Circle
Moderators: Shirlen Hardeo, Frank Karioris
As we reflect on the past year, Jeonju North Jeolla KOTESOL wants to hear from YOU~ (current, former, inactive, or potential new participants). This sharing circle will give us a chance to discuss how we can better support each other in and outside of the classroom. By hosting this open discussion, we are hoping to empower everyone to share and create in order to make JNJ yours for the upcoming spring. Come, vent, voice your vision for the JNJ, discuss issues faced in the classroom, or troubles with administration. KOTESOL’s motto is “teachers helping teachers” and we aim to be better at making our chapter more democratic and open for all educators or potential teachers in the area. Bring any questions, concerns, and suggestions for the advancement of our community!
Bio: Shirlen Hardeo is a new member who has taught in Korea for several years. She openly admits hesitation about joining KOTESOL and wants to welcome new voices, to share their needs for a community of teachers. She specialized in Leadership, Administration, and Advocacy during her master’s program in Social Work. As a learner-focused educator, she advocates for democratic and equitable classrooms and is consistent with this practice in all aspects of her life.
Bio: Frank G. Karioris, PhD is a Visiting Professor of Writing at Jeonbuk National University. Having taught students of all ages, they have lectured globally on issues in Sociology, Education, and Gender Studies. Their work can be found in, amongst others, the Hong Kong Review of Books, British Journal of Educational Studies, and the Journal of Critical Scholarship on Higher Education and Student Affairs.
