Susan Webster is from Scotland, but has lived and worked in Korea and Japan teaching all levels of English since 2006 with a year out in between to do a CELTA and a Masters in TESOL. Susan has been an employee at Jeonju University since March 2014 where she is continuing to experiment with a variety of teaching methods and methodologies with her eager students. Within language learning, Susan’s research interests are in online language learning to which she had the opportunity to publish her study on Communication Strategies in the online 3D social networking programme, Second Life. She is also enthusiastic about the power of picture books and storytelling within the EFL/ESL classroom. Here lies the focus of this presentation/workshop, where she will present some practical tips and ideas with which she has had success in her elementary classes and hopes that other teachers from elementary to more advanced levels can benefit.

Andy Webster holds a degree in Psychology and Philosophy from the University of Dundee and an MSc in TESOL from Edinburgh University. He completed his CELTA in 2013 and has published research exploring the pedagogical potential of virtual worlds and Web 2.0 tools. He has taught a variety of different learners in Japan and South Korea. This experience has provided him with a wonderful opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge required to teach different levels of English to those with varying learning abilities. He is especially keen to investigate new teaching methods and enjoys the continuing challenges associated with the teaching of English as a second language. He always focuses on creating lessons which are meaningful to students. Visual stimulus is an important feature of his lessons. In this presentation, he will discuss the power of images, whilst demonstrating activities and provide resources showing how to effectively use them as a rich resource in the esl classroom.
