Announcement: Dissolving Daegu Chapter
After considerable reflection, I am sharing some bittersweet news: Daegu Chapter is officially
closing.
Like so many organizations, we were adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Even as life
slowly returned to normal, our chapter never fully recovered without a stable home base. What
hasn’t changed at all is how proud we should all feel about what Daegu Chapter has
accomplished over the years.
For many, many years, this chapter thrived thanks to dedicated leaders, passionate volunteers,
and KOTESOL members who believed in building a supportive and professional community. We
held workshops. We hosted conferences. We gathered for post-meeting dinners. At these
events, both large and small, we shared many meaningful conversations and formed lasting
friendships. All of these memories were made possible only because people gave their time and
energy, simply because they cared so much about our community.
There are far too many people to name and thank here, but please know this: YOU made a
difference. YOU helped create a unique space for learning, for connection, and for personal and
professional growth. This is the kind of legacy that will always remain in the hearts and minds of
our friends and colleagues.
Of course, to everyone who ever attended an event, volunteered, presented, or
supported the Daegu Chapter, thank you so much. Truly, your involvement meant more than
you may ever realize.
The good news is that the spirit of our community — teachers helping teachers — continues
through the Busan-Gyeongsang-Daegu Chapter. We leave you in the capable hands of the
Busan-Gyeongsang-Daegu Chapter, led by President Gabriela Villafradez.
With much gratitude and respect,
Interim president: Jake Kimball
